“In 2006 Author John Grisham published his first and only non-

fiction book, titled The Innocent Man. The book delved into the

1982 murder of an Ada woman named Debbie Sue Carter, and also

introduced the Denice Haraway case, and the circumstances

surrounding the convictions of Tommy Ward and Karl Fontenot.

The innocent man drew attention to the fact that in both cases so-

called dream confessions were used by detectives and that the

same prosecutor and many of the same detectives worked on both

cases. John Grisham's book also showed the troubling parallels and

the dubious law enforcement practices in both cases.”
